Definition
The outermost layer of scalp skin, which retains moisture and keeps irritants out, functioning as it does elsewhere on the body.
It can be compromised by over-washing, harsh surfactants and scratching.
Supporting it
Gentler washing, less frequent stripping and careful handling generally do more than adding products.
